CASE STUDY: UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO HOSPITAL

Challenge:
Implement Hospital-Wide Nurse Call System

University Hospital (UH) is a 393 bed acute care and major teaching facility serving greater Denver and Colorado. The hospital services about 250,000 outpatients per year. UH is the teaching institution for the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. UH is the region's leading tertiary and quarternary care and referral center and is designated Level 1 Trauma Center. US News & World Report rate “University Hospital the number 1 Hospital in Colorado”. 

 
Solution: Procurement and Implementation

Retained by University Hospital to manage the Nurse Call System implementation. Responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of a multi-phased transition culminating in an integrated, hospital wide nurse call system. As a key feature, management and printing services were integrated into the existing Ethernet network. Project management responsibilities included oversight of entire nurse call project, coordination with general contractor for construction of new hospital and retrofit to existing hospital building.

 

Also responsible for interfacing with the leading health care systems provider to develop custom features for University Hospital including: system redundancy, capture of calls between floors and buildings, and full system-wide reporting and data storage. 

 

 

Created a comprehensive test plan to test all custom software included in the project. Responsibilities included working with the vendor, various trades, and network services to integrate system over existing network to hospital admissions, discharge and transfer systems.
