Challenge:
Data Center/Lab Consolidation

Founded in 1982, Sun Microsystems, Inc. emerged as a global Fortune 500 leader in enterprise network computing with over $8 billion in revenues and operations in 150 countries.  Sun is a worldwide supplier of hardware and software for the computing industry. Sun solutions enable organizations to integrate and leverage information resources across the enterprise and around the world.  Sun's vision is for a networked computing future driven by the needs and choices of the customer. 

 

Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle in 2010.

 
Solution: Program Management

Led the team responsible for consolidation of lab spaces at Sun Microsystems, consolidating 500,000 square feet of lab space in 9 buildings into 150,000 square feet in 1 building. Consolidated space included high-density tape libraries and equipment racks requiring redesign of chiller plant and distribution systems.  

In addition, redesign of infrastructure, fire suppression, badge access, EPO and other physical security systems was required. Spaces included a Data Center, Customer Briefing Center, customer-facing learning classrooms, disaster recovery and light manufacturing.
